Church to study law panel recommendations |
|
KOTTAYAM: The Malankara
Orthodox Syrian Church has appointed a committee to study the
implications of the recommendations of the Law Reforms Committee headed
by former Supreme Court Judge V.R. Krishna Iyyer on matters relating to
the Church.
The committee will be headed by Thomas Mar Athanasius
Metropolitan, according to a press note issued by the Church after a
meeting of the managing committee here on Tuesday.
The meeting of the managing committee was inaugurated
by Catholicos Baselius Mar Thoma Dydimos I, the supreme head of the
Malankara orthodox Syrian Church. He said that when the recommendations
are considered by the government, they should not overturn the
foundations of the Christian churches.

Christian Youth movement will conduct Vattasseril Mar Dionysius memorial
lecture on Sunday the 22nd February at StThomas Orthodox Church
Meenedom, Kottayam in connection with the 75th death anniversary of
St.Vattasseril Thirumeni. H.G.Dr.Yoohanon Mar Militos, president OCYM
will celebrate Holy Qurbana and preside over the function. Dr.Cyriac

| The
Orthodox Christian Youth Movement has decided to conduct an Akhila
Malankara Elocution competition on 23rd February at 10am at Baselious
College Kottayam, in connection with 75th death anniversary of
St.Vattasseril Mar Dionysius. The subject will be The identity, freedom
and witness of Malankara Sabha in the concept of Vattasseril Thirumeni.
Orthodox youths between 15 and 40 can participate. Those who wish to

Mathews Mar Ephiphanios Passed away |
Metropolitan of Kollam diocese H.G.
Mathews Mar Epiphanios Metropoltan entered into eternal rest at
11:15 am today. The mortal remains of H.G. Mar Epiphanios is now in
Benziger hospital, Kollam. It will be brought to Kollam Aramana
Chapel soon. Funeral will at Kollam Aramana Chapel tomorrow.
Nagarikanikkal will start at 10:00 AM. The final service of the
funeral will begin at 12:00 Noon.
Feb2:The
condition of H.G. Mathews Mar Epiphanios Metropoltan has improved
this morning. His Grace received H. Qurbana this morning and opened
his eyes.
Feb1: His Grace was admitted in the hospital on Thursday because of
difficulty in breathing. His grace was recovered from the difficulty
but on Saturday the condition became worse again and was in the ICU
till time. The condition of His Grace became very worse today and
remains critical. H.B. Paulose Mar Milithios Metropolitan, H.G. Dr.
Mathews Mar Severios Metropolitan and H.G. Paulose Mar Pachomios
Metopolitan visited His Grace and prayed.

Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad has been elected as the
16th Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia with 508 votes out of 701 at the
Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church. One hundred and sixty-nine
delegates voted for 59-year-old Metropolitan Kliment of Kaluga and
Borovsk.

into eternal rest at 11:05 PM today.His Grace was admitted in the
Muthoot Hospital, Kozhencherry for the last few days. The mortal remains
of His Grace will be taken to Basil Dayara Chapel this night and will be
kept there. The funeral will be at Basil Dayara Chapel, Pathanamthitta
on Friday 11:00 AM.

of the East.

KOTTAYAM: The working committee
of the
Malankara
Orthodox Syrian Church has decided not to cooperate with any peace
efforts with regard to the Thrikkunnathu Seminary that would go against
the final verdict of the Supreme Court in the church case.
The committee, which met at the
Catholicate Palace at
Devalokam near here on Friday, decided to oppose
any move to allow bishops of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church to
offer prayers at the tombs of metropolitans who had been interred at the
seminary.
